Uzoma Solutions – Helping Black-Owned Businesses Speak to Their Base
Thanks to the explosion in social media’s popularity, social media consultants are all over the internet. But it’s rare to find one who specializes in helping black-owned businesses.
That’s exactly what Uzoma Isichei of Uzoma Solutions offers. He helps businesses, particularly black-owned businesses, find a social media strategy that speaks to their mission and ideal audience. He uses a tailored approach to help the business achieve their goals – whether that’s gaining leads or improving brand awareness.
One thing certain about Uzoma is that he understands the language of social media. This coupled with his experience brings about a unique way of targeting your required audience.
In his own words:
I started my business while I was job searching and someone asked me for social media advice. I found myself talking to them for over an hour without breaking a sweat. What I thought was basic knowledge seemed like gold to the person I was speaking to. Then, they asked me (after I had shared with them, of course!) why I hadn’t charged for my time and expertise. It was at that moment I decided to formalize what I know.
I fell into social media when I lost my job as a mortgage adviser after a decade in financial services. Since then, social media has never stopped fascinating me, and that fascination developed very quickly over the last ten years.
I also trained as a business analyst, so I take a very objective view towards my clients about their businesses. This is important because most people see their business as their baby, but I provide an empathetic, yet dispassionate perspective to help them gain a fresh perspective to improve what they’re doing. It also means that, instead of only looking at social media goals (e.g. followers, engagement), I analyze the broader business needs and how social media can meet them.
I also think that all of my backgrounds have consistency in that I find myself sometimes explaining complex situations and making them understandable without being patronizing.
What makes you stand out?
There are many social media agencies and consultants. However, I have focused my energies mainly on black business owners.
The thinking behind it is because, to summarize it simply, social media is one of the few areas where black people can experience some form of equality. I don’t want to go over the various forms of discrimination that we’ve experienced in recent times, but it’s worth saying that black people are constantly fighting for an equal spot at the table. However, for the most part, a device and internet access allow us to get on an (almost) similar playing field.
Also, I have many reviews on LinkedIn that highlight the clarity I bring. This works well, particularly for those who are considered a bit older and find social media somewhat overwhelming. It’s almost impossible to speak with me for half an hour and not get a better understanding. I genuinely believe that’s my gift.
From a personal viewpoint, it’s easy to waste money on social media simply because business owners trust the expertise and promises they believe come with social media. Instead of empty promises, I offer proven results.
What challenges, if any, have you overcome?
It can be challenging as a single business owner offering a service, rather than a product, to get a financial grant, especially as I just got started during the pandemic. I’ve had to find financing from other sources to make things work as I gradually build my client base. It automatically slowed both me and the business down.
